Overview

Hayden's Night Out is a short film about a street interviewer who approaches a group of rowdy young men on a bustling nightlife street. Expecting party banter, he's met instead with an unexpectedly sincere reflection on grief, friendship, and the uncertainty of life after loss.

Manifesto

I wanted to create a short film centered on strong dialogue and performance rather than visual spectacle. The piece uses a lo-fi, handheld aesthetic—a resourceful (I felt) approach to filmmaking where the low budget becomes central to the story itself.

Takeaways

After watching the final film, I feel it has a very narrow audience—it was created with only myself in mind. I made it because I liked the premise and concept. Creating this film helped me grow more comfortable coordinating multiple people for a project. As an artist or filmmaker, the ability to get people excited about your work and to bring them on board to help you out is, I believe, a crucial skill.

In the future, I want to explore and create more work that adopts an aesthetic and subverts it.

Rupture

I am exploring rupture (On Rupture) as a device in my work. The moment of rupture in this short film is when Hayden delivers his dramatic monologue.
